What exactly is Tor?
Chances are that you may have heard about the above alien terms as a netizen, but you couldn't care less about them.
Why is that? Well because most of us don't have the need to browse the web anonymously, without caring more or less about being tracked by someone else(NSA for the record).
Sounds creepy? Well it should!
Yeah, that's what a "Tor" Browser basically does. Lets you browse the internet anonymously.
How ?
The Tor network disguises your identity by moving your traffic across different Tor servers, and encrypting that traffic so it isn't traced back to you. Anyone who tries would see traffic coming from random nodes on the Tor network, rather than your computer
I think this image can do the talking
A little background check if you will
Tor is short for The Onion Router (thus the logo) and was initially a worldwide network of servers developed with the U.S. Navy that enabled people to browse the internet anonymously. Now, it's a non-profit organization whose main purpose is the research and development of online privacy tools.
How should we get started then?
To access this network, you just need to download the Tor browser. Everything you do in the browser goes through the Tor network and doesn't need any setup or configuration from you. That said, since your data goes through a lot of relays, it's slow, so you'll experience a much more sluggish internet than usual when you're using.

What you get by using Tor Browser?
- Anonymity : If you want to be anonymous—say, if you live under a dictatorship, you're a journalist in an oppressive country, or a hacker looking to stay hidden from the government—Tor is one of the easiest ways to anonymize your traffic, and it's free.
- Useful for anyone who wants to keep their internet activities out of the hands of advertisers, ISPs, and web sites. That includes people getting around censorship restrictions in their country, police officers looking to hide their IP address, or anyone else who doesn't want their browsing habits linked to them.
And
Get to browse the DEEP WEB
Deep web? Sounds funny eh!
How about this.
Deep Web?
The deep web consists of web pages that aren't indexed by search engines and are inaccessible to web crawlers. Your online bank account page, for example, is part of the deep web. TOR hidden service sites (.onion sites) are only a tiny part of the deep web.It has some pretty dark stuff going inside.
For those who are wondering, it is NOT illegal to explore The Deep Web. Just be sure you know EXACTLY what you are clicking on. There are some things on there you would be better off not seeing. This is The DARK Web, not The Deep Web Yeah. Just be cautious of what you click on and you should be fine.
You should browse it very carefully as you can land up in pretty spooky sites. And by spooky I pretty much mean it! You can land up in seriously f*&ked up sites as a matter of fact. Well, it becomes inevitable when you are that bored and decide to randomly browse around in the Deep Web for a long long time.
Now I can't help but leave you guys in a cliffhanger by not going any further into details(now there are some pretty good reasons for that) and if you are really that Curious, I suggest you do a little bit of googling for yourself.
A little heads up before you use Tor
- Browsing through .onion sites(most of the time) is pretty dangerous and unsafe.
- Don't use your personal logins(email, facebook, banking services), like EVER! As that defeats the whole purpose of using the Tor browser at the first place and jeopardizes your personal information to be misused.
- You can really get into deep sh*t if you do something stupid.
- Plus your PC can get hacked into without you even knowing about it!
- And yeah, if you ever use the Tor version of Twitter(which I suggest you shouldn't!) .Don't follow anyone on it(you really don't wanna know the reason for this! Trust me on that)
Now I don't want you guys to get in any kind trouble so if you really got interested about Tor. I suggest these article for further reading and then decide the best for yourself.
